Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB) today extended a donation of RM50,000 to victims of the earthquake and tsunamis in Japan. Encik Jamaluddin Nor Mohamad, Chief Operating Officer of Bank Pembangunan presented the donation to the Executive Secretary of The Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur, Tomohisa Santoku at their office in Taman Seputeh here.
Also present, Head, Group Corporate Communications Bank Pembangunan, Encik Abdul Hanif Abu Bakar.
An earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale rocked Japan on March 11 and that triggered a tsunami that claimed the lives of 10,000 people while 16,000 people reported missing. In the event that hit the country's north-east coast has caused a tsunami as high as four meters away and demolish cars and buildings near the epicenter.
Until now, the Japanese are still worry about nuclear radiation following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant was damaged by the earthquake.
Meanwhile, Santoku when met said he was appreciative of the contributions given by BPMB in helping to reduce the hardship faced by the people of Japan.
The Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur a non-governmental body set up about 3 years ago and has about 4,500 members from various sectors. In their office here in Taman Seputeh, they conduct language classes such as Japanese, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia. In addition they also teach sports like Judo and Taekwondo to their members.
